"Geocaching in a Virginia State Parks is a great way to combine technology with good old-fashioned outdoor fun. The basic concept is that someone places a cache in the woods, usually a small container with a log book, and people use modern GPS receivers to find it. It has been described as, “Using a multi-billion dollar satellite system to find Tupperware® boxes in the woods.” Once a cache is found, the seeker goes to www.geocaching.com to log the visit, upload a photo and read what others said about the cache." Real Small Art Geocache
The Real Small Art Geocache is being found more regularly now with the warmer weather. Here's one of my favorite recent logs:
Log Date: 4/4/2010
My mother worked at this library just before it closed, and then at the "new" Bon Air library as I grew up. I read about this cache and I thought that this would be a good cache to try for when visiting her for Easter. Great spot! TFTC!
If you have questions about geocaching check out www.geocaching.com or email us realsmallart@gmail.com

Real Small Art Response...it serves as a reminder that sometimes it's the little things that count.
Where do you live? (City, State)
Richmond, VA
What was your first reaction?
What is going on?! But my fiancee is a painter so we immediately started looking through all of the paintings in the cache! It was touching to see something so personal and have it be available to us for free.
Who is the Artist? (If signed)
There wasn't a name, but it was gorgeous!
What are you going to do with your Real Small Art?
Our Real Small Art is sitting in our bedroom on the bookcase. We see it every day and every day it serves as a reminder that sometimes it's the little things that count.
How did finding Real Small Art affect your day, if at all?
It took us about 10 minutes to decide which piece we wanted to take with us. Great surprises are always going to make days better :o)

Found this one quickly. Nice container and hide. Took TB. I was going to draw something, but the log was filled with one-liners. TFTC!

The art is so great! All I can say is that I am glad there was a good stick nearby to help with the retrieval. I left a travel bug for the taking. I figured a nice motorcycle themed TB could refine its knowledge of the arts while visiting this cache! TFTH SL.

Real Small Art 2.0 posted by Bugsss and LionsForge

Bugsss and I, LionsForge, were at Grayson-Highlands State Park October 3rd & 4th. While there we did some hiking and geocaching. There are a good number of caches in the park. We found one between the Pinnacles and swapped a Pwca (LionsForge Real Small Art) for a skull eraser. We had a great time. Looking forward to next time, more hikes and more caches to find. Next up we will find the Real Small Art cache and drop in a piece from each of us.

Real Small Art 2.0
The #1 FAQ from Real Small Artists is, “Where do I post?” The #2 is, “Will someone who will appreciate it find it?” Here's a solution involving outer space satellites and Tupperware.
Have you heard of geocaching?
Described by geocaching.com, it’s a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. There are 878,742 active geocaches in the world, including more than 100 within a 5 mile radius of my house. Freaky.
Described by me, imagine two dots displayed on a map: The red dot = you, green dot = a cache. You walk towards the green dot, you find a cache. Now imagine the cache contains art.
So, I tried it today. I wasn’t sure if I could actually find a cache, but this morning I took my kids to the same park, the same path, the same place we’ve visited at least three times this month… and there, we found our first cache. I put art in the cache, finders keepers.
Geocaching.com provides free accounts, maps and complete instructions here: www.geocaching.com. If you visit the web site, type in your zip code and check out the secret stashes in your own backyard.
Let me know if you try it, if you have any questions or suggestions. I plan to continue documenting posted art and found art on the blog.
