John Sarvey's Comments on Real Small Art League

Stop, Drop and Squint for Real Small Art

"Something that has always defined Richmond for me has been the number of utterly random, creative and selfless initiatives that have emerged from the artistic crevices of this town. Whether it is the burst of musical verve that was Tenderizer/Tenderette Records or the street sign art of a man named Hope, you could fill a wiki with case studies of small scale creativity.
The Real Small Art League is a stellar example of what makes Richmond magic. (Tip of the Hat to Urge Magazine.) RSAL boasts the tiny guerilla talents of local artists like Tiffany Glass Ferreria, Mim Scalin, Allison Compton, Sheila Gray, Sarah Stegall, Bart Schultz, Cindy Hicks and Richard Garrett. Their site includes a map of Richmond with pushpins indicating where tiny art was found and reported.

Here's how Urge reported on the Real Small Art League:
Random acts of kindness meets Banksy's public works—an art awareness campaign with ambush inspirations and no destructive element.” This is how founder Tiffany Glass Ferreria describes Real Small Art League, an ongoing public art project designed to inspire creative awareness. Since February a growing number of artists have been joining Real Small Art League to make, post, and give away tiny original artworks in surprise public locations.First, the miniature works of art, in a variety of media, are posted in public places. Each contains a message intended specifically for the finder. The artworks direct finders to a website. There, they may answer a series of questions and become members of an online community.
The Real Small Art Project has tucked 300 pieces of their tiny stash in selected copies of Urge Magazine, which can be found at area Ukrop's and Kroger supermarkets.
